Overview

The Texas Education Agency (ÂÜÀòÉç) is committed to supporting school systems in their efforts to improve the safety and security of school facilities for staff, students and visitors. The 88th Texas Legislative Session appropriated $1.1 billion to support school systems in meeting the . ÂÜÀòÉç awarded this funding to school systems through SAFE Grant Cycles 1 and 2 during the 2023-2024 school year.

SAFE Cycle 1 Grant ExtensionÌý

ÂÜÀòÉç will be extending the SAFE Cycle 1 grant program to April 30, 2027, through authorization from the Texas Legislature. As part of this extension, the Program Guidelines for the grant will be updated in the coming weeks to reflect updated grant events, and ÂÜÀòÉç will update the Notice of Grant Awards (NOGAs) to reflect this change. Revised grant events are as follows:

  • Amendment Due Date: March 1, 2027
  • End of Period of Performance: April 30, 2027
  • Final Expenditure Report Due: July 29, 2027

SAFE Cycle 1 recipients should review their compliance status with the and their Cycle 1 grant spending in accordance with the grant program guidelines listed below.

SAFE Cycle 2 Grant Extension

ÂÜÀòÉç will be extending the SAFE Cycle 2 grant program to April 30, 2027, through authorization from the Texas Legislature. As part of this extension, the Program Guidelines for the grant will be updated in the coming weeks to reflect updated grant events, and ÂÜÀòÉç will update the Notice of Grant Awards (NOGAs) to reflect this change. Revised grant events are as follows:

  • Amendment Due Date: March 1, 2027
  • End of Period of Performance: April 30, 2027
  • Final Expenditure Report Due: July 29, 2027

School systems should review their SAFE Cycle 2 spending plan and make any necessary changes related to this extension. No additional actions are required by school systems for SAFE Cycle 2.
