Senate Bill (SB) 2081, passed by the 87th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2021, adds prekindergarten classes to the existing class size limit of 22 for kindergarten through grade 4.ÌýÌý

The class size limit for prekindergarten applies beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.Ìý

School districts may request aÌýMaximum Class Size ExceptionÌýunder the provisions of Texas Education Code, §25.112, if any class for prekindergarten through grade 4 exceeds the allowable class size limit of 22 students per class (a 22:1 student-to-teacher ratio). An exemption expires at the end of the school year for which it is granted.Ìý
