–F is Important for Texas Students, Parents and Educators

The –F system was established by the Texas Legislature through House Bill (HB) 22 in 2017 “to continuously improve student performance to achieve the goals of eliminating achievement gaps based on race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status and to ensure this state is a national leader in preparing students for postsecondary success.” Valid, reliable, comparable and objective measures of student outcomes are key to ensuring –F ratings are fair, rigorous, and transparent to properly empower parents and educators to celebrate successes while improving student supports. There are multiple measures used to evaluate –F, including the STAAR test, graduation rates, and measures of college, career, and military readiness.
